EMS Week
From May 16-19, Greenville County EMS hosted the 874th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment from Ft. Jackson to participate in combat
medical training. Soldiers were riding on ambulances and completed two prehospital medical care courses including the Tactical Combat
Casualty Care Course. On Saturday, the unit set up a mock battalion aid station where Greenville County EMTs and paramedics participated
as role-players with simulated injuries including multiple gunshot wounds, burns, blast injuries, and fractures. The 874th mobilized to
urgently triage, treat, and evacuate casualties as they would in a combat zone. Several wounded required operative surgical intervention which was also simulated.
This is one of the first times a medical unit has integrated with a municipal EMS agency to undergo joint training. The event was a success and praised by
the unit’s Battalion Commander. Greenville County EMS was proud to assist in preparing this Army medical unit for future deployment.
First Responder's Day
GCEMS is proud to participate each year in First Responder's Day at Flour Field! This year, Paramedic Josh King was highlighted for his efforts to find a kidney donor.
Along with the help of Paramedic King's transplant team, GCEMS reached out to the public for help and we all remain hopeful for a donor. The day was also filled
with wonderful public education, touch-a-truck, and a parade displaying our emergency vehicles! We look forward to next year, Greenville!
