About

The Subdistrict is governed by the Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict Commission which consists of five (5) members who are appointed by the governor upon the recommendation of Greenville County Council. Each commissioner serves for a term of four years.

Metro Sewer cooperates with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control (SCDHEC), Renewable Water Resources (ReWa) and all municipalities in the provision of sewer in Greenville County.

Powers and Duties
The commission is authorized:

  • To acquire, construct, maintain, operate, improve and extend sewage collector lateral lines and related facilities and equipment for the collection of sewage within the district,
  • To conduct or contract for engineering studies and plans looking forward to an orderly development of sewage disposal facilities within the Subdistrict,
  • To recommend to Greenville County Council and the Greenville County Legislative Delegation the establishment of any Subdistrict to come out of the area of the Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict as population growth and need for sewage disposal facilities develop,
  • To consent to the annexation of any of its area by any organized Subdistrict or municipality within the area of the Greenville County Sewer Authority if, at the discretion of the Metropolitan Sewer Subdistrict, such annexation would reasonably facilitate or improve collection and disposal of sewage,
  • To exercise the power of eminent domain,
  • To prescribe such regulations as it shall deem necessary to provide for the efficient and sanitary collection of sewage,
  • To make contracts of all sorts and to execute all instruments necessary or convenient for the carrying on of the Subdistrict,
  • To impose wastewater collection rates and connection fees to generate revenue.

The commission meets the third Monday of the month at 2:00 p.m. at 120 Augusta Arbor Way.
