Curt McGahhey
District 21

Curt McGahhey was elected in November of 2024 to represent Greenville County Council District 21 encompassing the central eastern area of Greenville County. After serving our great country for 21 years, his passion for serving led him to this position where he can once again contribute and give back to his community. He is very excited to have the opportunity to improve the quality of life and increase the safety of all the citizens of Greenville County.

A native of Vineland, NJ; he joined the US Army in 1992 as a Combat Medic, and after graduating from The State University of New York at Oswego in 1996 with a degree in Biology, received a Commission as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. Upon successful completion of Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Fl, and becoming a Naval Aviator, he served in multiple aviation units completing multiple overseas deployments including Afghanistan, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia. While active duty he flew CH-46 Helicopters, UC-12 Transport planes, MV-22 Tilt-rotors and served as the Air Operations Officer aboard an LHD class carrier; he has more than two and a half years at sea. His major decorations include the Air Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. Additionally, he earned his MBA from Webster University in 2006.

After retiring from the Marine Corps in 2013, Curt worked for several large Fortune 500 companies in various leadership roles. Settling in Greenville in 2017, he is currently flying as a Maintenance Test Pilot for the Army King Air (BE-200/300) program at Donaldson Airfield. Besides his full-time contractor position, he owns CAVU Flight School located at the Greenville Downtown Airport where he instructs and trains new pilots; he also flies commercially for private plane owners. Curt resides in the Five Forks area with his wife Katy and their four children. They are members of Palmetto Hills Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Simpsonville. He enjoys spending time with his family, flying, hiking, running and traveling. Curt has been to 51 countries and six continents, one of his favorite trips was to Mount Everest base camp in Nepal.
